"Minor student" visa

You are in possession of a long-stay "D" visa for minor student

The minor student visa does not need to be validated online and is not subject to an application for a residence permit. Minor students stay legally in France, under cover of the visa, during its period of validity.

Please note: if the minor reaches the age of majority (18 years) during the period of his/her visa, he/she must apply for a residence permit on the official website "Administration Étrangers en France" (ANEF) or at the Prefecture within 2 months following his/her majority.

Are you going to reach the age of majority during the validity of your "minor student" visa? Here are the steps to follow:

1. Build your application
To apply for a residence permit you will need :
  • Your passeport (identity, dates of validity, entry stamps pages)
  • Your birth certificate
  • (If married) : marriage certificate + spouse's residence permit if she/he lives in France
  • An E-photo (digital photo) - list of photobooths in Perpignan and its surroundings
  • An evidence of address dated within the last 6 months
  • A proof of monthly personal resources of at least 615€ A certificate of registration for the academic year
2.A If the starting date of validity of your visa does not exceed 3 months at the time of your application for a residence permit
If the date of validity of your visa does not exceed 3 months at the time of your application for a residence permit

3. Validation of your application

After submitting your documents, a confirmation of digital submission (attestation de dépôt) will be sent to you by e-mail. If your file is not complete, you can complete it by connecting to your ANEF account.

4. Favourable decision

Once the application has been processed and validated by the Préfecture, you will receive an attestation called "attestation de prolongation d'instruction d'une demande de titre de séjour " on your ANEF personal account. This certificate is the equivalent of the receipt (récépissé) that was previously issued by the Préfecture. This attestation allows you to work (as many hours as your "student" residence permit) and travel out of France.

5. Residence permit withdrawal

When your card is ready, you will receive a message from the Préfecture, asking you to collect it and pay the tax there.

2.B If the starting date of validity of your visa exceeds 3 months at the time of your application for a residence permit

If the date of validity of your visa exceeds 3 months at the time of your application for a residence permit, contact the Préfecture to make an appointment to submit your application for a "student" permit.

When requesting an appointment, do not forget to specify the type of visa you have as well as the start date of validity.
On the day of the appointment, take with you all the supporting documents requested.
